We last discussed the COVID-19 pandemic in our June, 2020 column. The White Plains accident attorneys at Worby Vecchio Edelman are pleased to announce that since that time, our attorneys have returned to the office on a nearly fulltime basis. Our paralegals and legal assistants are working both in the office and remotely.
The Courts are handling daily remote video conferences, and our cases are moving along. We have scheduled Court conferences and depositions virtually every day of the week. Jury trials have been scheduled in Westchester, with appropriate COVID precautions in place.
Our Entire Staff is in Compliance with Social Distancing Guidelines
It would be difficult for any of us to think of even one industry or occupation that has not been affected by the virus – the question is what we can all do from a public health perspective to get things back to normal. The entire staff at Worby Vecchio Edelman is in compliance with social distancing guidelines. We are all wearing masks at all times when we are in a public space – which means absolutely everywhere outside of a private office. A building representative takes all of our temperatures each and every day when we enter the lobby, and this information is recorded and maintained by us.
Lawyer Zoom Conferences and Remote Notarization
We are trying to avoid personal client meetings so that we can maintain a proper social distance, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t see you or speak to you as often as necessary. We are conducting Zoom conferences with clients – this works best on a computer, but a smart phone is good enough too. Some documents have to be notarized, and that can also be easily accomplished. Back in March, the Governor instituted a Remote Notarization policy in New York; that policy has been extended several times, and is now in effect until at least November 3. To be eligible, you need only be in New York; and sign the document within our view on our computer screen. You can then take a picture of the document that you signed and e-mail it to us. We can then remotely notarize your signature. The only other requirement is that you mail us the document with your original signature. We can then sign off on that original, and date it on the date that we remotely notarized.
Victim Compensation Fund
The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund is in full operation, and is issuing awards, and processing claims. You can always get more specific information on how this system works at www.vcf.gov. The World Trade Center Health Program is an arm of the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and as such is subject to delay, but our clients are getting treatment and consultation appointments.
